Our country India is known for its old age traditions & festivals, worldwide. I have been celebrating Rakhi with my siblings, since my childhood. From wearing new clothes, selecting rakhis from busy markets, buying sweets and preparing meals for the occasion, decorating home, everything is a celebration that brings families together. On Raksha bandhan, sisters tie rakhi on their brother's wrist, while praying for their good health & success and the brother pledges to protect her sister for lifetime.

Since Rakhi is the starting of the festive season, our home needs to be decorated to get that vibrant Indian festive look. Here are some tips & ideas to decorate your home for Rakhi, this year.
1) FLOWER RANGOLI
According to the stories that I have heard from my grand ma, Rangoli is drawn at the entrance of your house to welcome all the guests. It is supposed to bring joy & happiness to our homes. Now I love fresh flowers more than the powder colors for making rangoli, as its less messy and the floral scent gives a fresh feel to your house. I also have earthen lamps (mitti ka diya) at my home which I keep at the centre of the flower rangoli, to give a warm welcome to my family members.
2) MACRAME WALL HANGINGS & FAIRY LIGHTS
I bought macrame wall hangings & fairy lights during Diwali last year but I will be using these wall hangings & lights for decorating my home for Rakhi. I also have some indoor plants that I will be using in combination with the to decorate my living room.
3) FESTIVE HOME DECOR PIECES
You can always find variety of home decor pieces in the nearby local markets. You can buy Indian art paintings, wind chimes, lamps, terracotta wall decor pieces, that will definitely add vibrant look to your living area.
4) CHANGE THE CURTAINS
Trust me, changing curtains of your living room can give your home a quick makeover. Go for sheer curtains so that natural light comes in the room and the space looks more vibrant & colorful.
5) Raksha Bandhan Board
Apart from decorating the place with rangoli & decor pieces, you can also make a Raksha bandhan collage, which contains your childhood pictures. Now this task is little bit time consuming but seeing all this will definitely make your brother feel so special. After all this is the day to cherish & relive all the childhood memories with your siblings.
6) RAKHI THALI
I usually make the rakhi thali at home. Take a clean plate and cover it with a colored velvet cloth. Items to include in the thali are roli, chawal, kumkum, rakhi, sweets, handful of dry fruits & some fresh flower petals. Your decorated rakhi thali is ready. I always keep the purchased rakhi gift for my brother alongside the thali.
7) PREPARING DELICIOUS MEALS
I remember my grandma used to wake up at 4:00am in the morning and she was super excited to prepare the meals for all her children & grandchildren for rakhi celebrations. She inculcated these precious values in all her children. Make some special dishes for your brother as fresh food prepared with love tastes better and is a lovely way to connect with all the members who are there for the raksha bandhan celebration.
Try to incorporate all these ideas for decorating your house for Rakhi this year, I am pretty much sure your entire family will love & appreciate your efforts.
